Marvel Studios has been keeping key aspects of the upcoming Captain Marvel movie under thick veils of secrecy, with two biggest points of intrigue being the source of Carol Danvers' cosmic powersand the pivotal role that Jude Law is playing in the film. After a lot of back and forth over whether or not Jude Law was playing iconic Marvel Comics hero Mar-Vellit seemed that Law is instead playing Yon-Rogg a Kree commander who has a long, storied history with both Carol Danvers and the origional Captain Marvel.
Well, if there needed to be any further confirmation of Yon-Rogg's role in Captain Marvel then this will probably do: producer Jonathan Schwartz confirmed it!
We were at the set visit for Captain Marvel and had the chance to sit down with Schwartz, who directly took on the question of Yon-Rogg's presence in the film. According to the Marvel producer: " Yon-Rogg does pop up, yeah. Of course, at the time this set visit took place, the dots between Jude Law and Yon-Rogg had not yet been connected.
So what may have seemed like a safe reveal at the time of the interview now becomes a much bigger deal. For reference, the earlier "confirmations" of Law playing Yon-Rogg came from toy merch that listed his Kree Starforce commander under that name.Hypoechoic thyroid nodule size
That reveal got tripped up when the official Captain Marvel website listed a photo of Law's character with the caption of "Mar-Vell" - but that caption was quickly scrubbed from the website news outlets noticed it. Law has since been referred to as the "Starforce Commander," aka the leader of the Kree Military Special Ops unit that Carol Danvers becomes a part of before crash landing back on her homeworld Earth.
Given Yon-Rogg's tumultuous history with Carol in the comics, it's hard to believe that Jude Law won't ultimately become more of an antagonist to Captain Marvel, rather than the mentor he appears to be at the start of the film. A final fight between Yon-Rogg and Captain Marvel may prove to be epic, as Law also teased some hidden powers for his character, during our set visit: "I've got this kind of cool business I can do with gravity [laughs].
Avengers: Infinity War is now available on home video. Comments 1.Yon-Rogg is the commanding leader of Starforce tasked to support the Kree Empire in their war against the Skrulls by all means necessary.
Though Yon-Rogg succeeded in killing Mar-Vell, the energy ends up being absorbed into a young pilot named Carol Danvers when she destroyed the engine.
The explosion is what caused the energy to be absorbed into Carol's body, erasing her memories. Upon learning of this, Yon-Rogg took Carol as his new protege to the Kree homeworld Hala, renaming her as Vers and training her as a weapon for the Kree Empire to use.Obsproject for android
InStarforce was tasked to help track down the Skrulls led by Talos and exterminate them due to their refusal to submit to Kree rule. However, it turns out that it was all a trap to lure Vers into the Skrulls' grasp as they intend to access her memories, just as Vers manages to free herself before engaging into a fight against several Skrulls. This actions is what caused the Skrulls' ship to self-destruct, forcing Vers, Talos and a number of Skrulls to evacuate to Earth.
Upon receiving a call from Vers over her current location on Earth, Yon-Rogg intends to rescue her so he leads Starforce to a hour hyperjump to Earth. However, Vers soon regained her memories and learned that the Skrulls lost their homeworld to the Kree because their refusal to submit to Kree rule and that they just want to find a new homeworld to be safe from the Kree Empire. Vers also learned that before Mar-Vell died, she created a giant spaceship powered by the Tesseract that can be used to harbor Skrull refugees.
She also remembered that she witnessed Mar-Vell being killed by Yon-Rogg before she destroyed the engine that erased her memories in the first place. As Yon-Rogg finally made to Earth, he tracked down Vers' location in an old shaft, only to find out that Norex is impersonating Vers in order to allow the real Vers along with Nick Fury, Maria Lambeau and Talos to fly up to Mar-Vell's giant floating in Earth's orbit containing many Skrulls refuges including Talos' wife and daughter.
Realizing now that Vers has regained her memories and defected to the Skrulls, Yon-Rogg kills Norex before contacting Ronan the Accuser to send in a fleet of warships to Earth. He would later have Starforce to track down Mar-Vell's ship, where they captured Vers and the Skrulls. Yon-Rogg then watches as Vers is being interrogated by the Superior Intelligence, who taunts her of her failure until Vers breaks free of the implant that was used to suppress her powers, allowing herself to free Fury, Maria and the Skrulls from captivity and have them evacuate back to Earth.
Upon witnessing this, Yon-Rogg orders Minn-Erva to take down the refugees at once. As Yon-Rogg attempts to board a ship to catch up with Minn-Erva, Vers renaming herself as Captain Marvel engages into a fight with him.
Following Minn-Erva's death at the hands of Maria, Captain Marvel was able to take down Yon-Rogg before defeating Ronan's fleet by destroying their missiles, forcing Ronan and his remaining forces to flee. Witnessing the retreat of Ronan and his remaining forces, Yon-Rogg is confronted by Captain Marvel, who decides to send him back to Hala in his own ship.
Yon-Rogg replied that he can't leave empty-handed, to which Captain Marvel assured that he won't by saying that he will deliver her message to the Supreme Intelligence that she will put an end to the war for good.
Captain Marvel: What Happens to Yon-Rogg?
Yon-Rogg reluctantly obliged as Captain Marvel fires up his ship, sending him back to Hala. It is unknown what happened to Yon-Rogg afterwards, though it can be presumed that he would face a severe punishment by the Supreme Intelligence for failing on his mission in disgrace after delivering Captain Marvel's message. Yon-Rogg is a loyal and true believer of the Kree Empire's ideology like his other companions.
He also has a sense of camaraderie with the rest of the Starforce, he also took a special liking for Vers and really wanted to help her control her powers not only because of the plans of Supreme Intelligence. Shortly after he was cast, Law went to great efforts to avoid naming his charactermostly be deflecting and changing the subject. The evidence has been building for this theory for some time, supported by Hasbro's official Marvel Legends merchandise.
And now, they've confirmed his identity. This book introduces readers to the Kree Starforce, and gives a sense of the relationship between the Starforce's different members. Yon-Rogg appears to be one of the Kree's most senior military commanders, working with the Supreme Intelligence on its most secret plans.
Starforce seems to be his pet project, a relatively new elite strike-team who have swiftly become legends across the Kree Empire. The warrior known as Vers - in reality, Carol Danvers, a. Captain Marvel - is the newest recruit, and Yon-Rogg considers her to be their most powerful member. But why has Marvel been so secretive about Law's character, Yon-Rogg? In reality, with Yon-Rogg as Starforce Commander, the ranks of Starforce consist of comic book villains. That clearly suggests the Kree aren't the " noble warrior heroes " Carol Danvers believes them to be.
Presumably this is supposed to be something of a surprise twist in the film, but Marvel knew that anyone familiar with the comics would recognize the name "Yon-Rogg" and work it out. Given all this secrecy, it is a little strange that Marvel has published a tie-in novel blowing the lid on one of the greatest mysteries in the film's marketing, even though producer Jonathan Schwartz already confirmed Yon-Rogg is in Captain Marvel.
Official tie-in merchandise had already named Jude Law's character as Yon-Rogg, so frankly all anybody was waiting for was official confirmation. Yon Rogg Confirmed to Appear in 'Captain Marvel'
Related Topics SR Originals captain marvel. While Captain Marvel tells the story of how Carol Danvers becomes one of the most powerful heroes in the Marvel Cinematic Universethe film also introduces several other characters setting up for further cosmic adventures -- including Yon-Rogg.
Early in Captain Marvelfans are introduced to Yon-Rogg Jude Law though he's presented as being Carol's Kree mentor as he teaches and trains her, attempting to help her become her best self so that she can best serve. However, as the film continues it's revealed that Yon-Rogg is far from the supportive if not a bit tough-love mentor he presented himself to be.
Yon-Rogg is revealed to be the enemy of sorts, having sought out Mar-Vell's Lightspeed Engine energy source so that the Kree can use it to further dominate the universe -- a stark difference from the idea that the Kree were trying to protect the universe from Skrulls. Carol also comes to realize that it was Yon-Rogg who stole her from the site the plane she was flying with Mar-Vell crashed after Carol had been infused with the energy from the Lightspeed Engine.
With this information, Carol decides to fight against the Kree, choosing to help the Skrull refugees escape to find a home worldhoping to get them away before Yon-Rogg and Starforce show up. Of course, a Marvel movie wouldn't be a Marvel movie without a big fight scene so Yon-Rogg and Starforce do show up, leading to an epic fight on Mar-Vell's ship.
When that fight turns toward Earth -- Carol duped Yon-Rogg into thinking she had the Tesseract while it was really headed to Earth thanks to Goose the Flerken -- Carol gets a chance to face off with her former mentor in the first fair fight she's likely ever had with him. And Carol Danvers kicks his butt. Soundly defeated by Carol, a battered Yon-Rogg is put in a ship with its coordinates set for the Kree capital, Hala, and she has a message for the Supreme Intelligence and the rest of the Kree: she's coming for them and she's going to put a stop to their war and take them down in the process.
Despite his please that she "can't" do this, Carol does it anyway, reinforcing that she is no longer his nor anyone else's pawn. While this leaves Yon-Rogg alive and sort of well, things probably aren't going to go especially well for him when he gets back to Hala.
First, he failed in his mission to collect the energy source and beyond that, Carol now knows who she is and is no longer on their side. She's actively helping the Skrulls complete with her powers no longer dampened. That's not likely to go over well with the Supreme Intelligence. However, even if his punishment is extreme, Yon-Rogg being alive at the end of Captain Marvel does open the door for him to appear in future films -- including a proper Kree-Skrull war.

Yon-Rogg's annoyance with Mar-Vell only grew his hatred for him and actively tried to get him killed on their mission to Earth. On the way, Yon-Rogg told Vers that the Supreme Intelligence would take the form of the person that she admired the most. Yon-Rogg advised Vers to rely less on her emotions and more on her brain so that her powers would not get out of control.
